diptychs – february 2010

Since March is almost over I thought it was about time I posted some highlights from our February diptychs. At the end of February Kaitlyn and I had finished four months (a whole quarter of a year) of taking and uploading a photograph a day and combining them on flickr. I’m excited that winter is nearly over and we are seeing more life and light in each day.

what’s not to love

desert landscape + fragrant blooms + incredible facial + poolside breakfasts + fish tacos + mecca of mid-century modernism + hotel viceroy + kelly wearstler decor + world class tennis + rafael nadal + two of my best friends = dreamy weekend in palm springs. What a way to begin a year of celebrations for my 40th birthday!

HOTEL VICEROY in PALM SPRINGS

LEE + LESLEY

TENNIS

Agassi + Nadal + Federer + Sampras at the Hit for Haiti fundraiser (watching a challenge which Sampras & Federer won)

Rafael Nadal practicing (he was wearing orange… i was wearing orange – must be a sign!)

Rafael Nadal on the stadium’s big screen (it was hard to choose between the views of Rafa or the views of the mountains)

Feliciano Lopez singles match (which he won!)

Jankovic + Yan doubles match (Jankovic went on to win the women’s singles title)

shelter from the storm

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Los Angeles for years, but I don’t need to bore you with that battle. What I can say is that I’ve found it! I’ve found the best place to be in LaLa land, especially when a fast-moving storm is rolling off the Pacific Ocean. What began as a bummer of a day with low grey clouds hovering over L.A. (one of the city’s few high points is its constant sunshine) ended in dramatic fashion with a courtside view of the storm followed by the Getty Center lighting up like a jewel. The rain soaked marble reflected every possible bit of light emanating from Richard Meier’s architectural masterpiece. I saw the city and one of its prized possessions in a whole new light. That’s a three-pointer at the buzzer for L.A.

diptychs – january 2010

Here are some highlights from our third month of diptychs. I love the warm rich colors we’ve captured during a traditionally grey month. Being a photographer means obsessing over lighting and I’ve been encouraged to see twilight creep into the later evening hours as winter wanes.
